Developing the Potentials for Tomorrow's Leaders
CODE OF CONDUCT AGREEMENT | YOUTH CAMP EVALUATION FORM  PARENT EVALUATION | YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

Hello, a quick one from me. As a child of African born immigrants, I always look forward to the African Center’s ANNUAL summer youth camp. The theme for the camp is TIME. It means Train, Inspire, Motivate and Empower. Wow, these are big words! Here is my story from the camp.

Mom takes me to the camp in the morning and picks me up early evening. Sometimes,
I ride with Dad. It is always fun to meet kids from other African countries at the camp. I enjoy the snacks and lunch periods.

Everyday, we write our experiences at the camp in our journals and we share our stories with the campers. We do school work like maths, sciences and English. We also do languages. I can not wait to learn more French and speak Creeo.
We enjoy a number of outdoor activities.  We learn how to play lawn tennis and other games. We take trips using African Center’s Bus. Also when we go on trips, I pay attention so I can gain a lot because I have to share my experiences
with with my parents as well as friends who aren't privileged to be on the team. I always try to guide the younger kids to pay attention too instead of leaving them to goof around. We go swimming. We learn so many life skills.

It is good for kids to develop team spirit. At the camp, we learn the cultures of our parents, like drumming, dancing and mask making. We do visit different places of interest, like sports hall of fame and when it is time to shot the hoop, I am first on hand. We visit the children museum, state museum; different parks. Kids like to ride their bikes. So the camp teaches us about bicycle riding safety.

The camp is filled with fun. We get to meet a number of important people. We met Mr. Bimbo Manuel who is a top actor and movie producer from Nigeria. The girls in camp are happy and they laugh and giggle a lot, but I don’t pay much attention. The boys are happy like my friend, he laughs a lot, I wish he grows back his teeth though!. I am lucky to have other campers who play the role of big sisters.

The camp counselors are strict but nice .

One day on my way back home, I asked my mom how much she and dad paid for me to attend the camp. She told me the camp, the food, the training and the fun are free because the African Center pays for everything. So, when the big boss from the African Center, Mr. Shola came to teach us about leadership, I asked him how is it possible for him to provide the camp for free. Mr. Shola explained that it is people and organizations in our community that usually contribute the money, food and time to make it possible for us to enjoy the camp for free.

Then I remember that my grandma brought food to the camps a couple of times for the kids to enjoy. Please I want all the readers of my story to support our camp and provide money and all the things we need to allow the camp to continue. This is my story and I am SURE I have shared and spoken the minds of my fellow campers. I certainly look forward to the 2009 edition. Thank You African Center.
